A concerning matter regarding the victimisation of firearm owners and professional hunters by the Tshwane Metro Police. A recent letter addressed to the MMC for Safety and Security highlights the need to address this issue urgently.
According to the letter, an investigation is currently underway by the Metro’s Integrity Unit, specifically focusing on incidents in the Hammanskraal/Carousel area (N1). However, as a precautionary measure, firearm owners are advised to report any harassment or victimisation they may experience.
To ensure effective reporting, it is recommended you provide the following details in your report:
🔹 Names of officers involved in the misconduct.
🔹 Registration numbers of any vehicles used by the officers.
🔹 Date, time, and location of the incident.
🔹 Specifics of the officers’ conduct.
🔹 Details of any threats made in relation to firearms.
🔹 If hunting vehicles were targeted, please provide supporting evidence.
Firearm owners are advised to familiarise themselves with the following key points:
🔹 Lawful inspection of firearms can be requested by police officials upon proper identification.
🔹 Carrying firearms licensed for sport shooting or hunting purposes is generally permitted.
🔹 Loaded firearms may be carried by owners, excluding firearms stored in terms of section 13 of the Firearms Control Act.
🔹 Transporting firearms in the same vehicle as the owner is strongly recommended.
🔹 Always carry valid firearm licenses and permits required for hunting or transportation.
