Erasmia CPF elected

Erasmia previously did not have a CPF, but the new chairperson wants to leave a lasting legacy.

The Erasmia residents and local police have elected a CPF committee for the first time in years.

The local police station hosted the residents at the Erasmia community hall and successfully elected the committee on Saturday, July 22 2023.

Newly elected chairperson Wessel Swanepoel said that the new CPF had divided the suburb into three main sectors.

Swanepoel proudly introduced the newly elected committee members as:

Chairman: Wessel Swanepoel (sector 3) [Resigned November 2023]

Deputy chair: Pritesh Bhana (sector 1)

Secretary: Gary Watkins (sector 3)

Deputy Secretary: Lamla Malotana (sector 2)

Treasurer: Diane Kee (sector 2) [Resigned]

Public Relations Officer: Vittesh Devchand (sector 1)

“We have our work cut out for us indeed,” said Swanepoel.

The Erasmia CPF’s goal for the next few years is to unite the diverse community structures in the area, working closely with all institutions, including security providers, neighbourhood watches, plot and farm watches and all others who have the welfare of the Erasmia community at heart.

“We will support our SAPS to the best of our ability and work diligently to make our community safe, secure and proud.”

Swanepoel said that the new committee is excited to leave a lasting legacy for the next committee to inherit.

Erasmia SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Tumisang Moloto said the station had not had a CPF structure for many years due to inconsistencies within previously elected structures.

The station set out to host several engagements with the community and the Security Services Sub-Sector Crime Forums (SSCF) were elected within the policing precinct.

Consultations were then made with the SSCF to elect the Erasmia CPF.

“The CPF is a link between police and communities to deal with all issues and matters of concern to communities,” said Moloto.

Station Commander Lt Phindile Madonsela said: “The team will kick-start the work immediately to build a healthy relationship between police and communities.

“I also want to encourage the communities to accept the elected structure and to give support at all times.”
