Issues such as GBV, children’s rights, hijacking and robberies were tackled.

Erasmia police took to the R511 Road to continue their Safe Journey programme aimed at raising awareness about crime.

Police, together with the Khuluma Family Counselling NGO and SDS Protection security, joined hands to distribute pamphlets to pedestrians, motorists and residents in Laezonia, west of Centurion.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Tumisang Moloto said issues such as GBV, children’s rights, hijacking and robberies were tackled.

He said it was important for the community and police to work together.

“On Monday, 21 February 2022, a community member tipped off the police about a Toyota Etios doing the rounds in Laezonia. The information was operationalised and positive leads were followed which led to the vehicle being intercepted.”

Moloto said three men and a woman were found in the vehicle.

It was searched and officers recovered an unlicensed firearm, which was seized.

The firearm will be sent for ballistics to check whether it was used in other crimes.

The four were expected to appear before the Atteridgeville magistrate’s court on Wednesday on possession of an unlicensed firearm charge.

Vispol Commander Captain Simon Maredi urged other community structures to join this initiative in ensuring that police and the community work together to fight crime.

The Safety Journey programme is set to continue.
