“On Monday, 21 February 2022, a community member tipped off the police about a Toyota Etios doing the rounds in Laezonia. The information was operationalised and positive leads were followed which led to the vehicle being intercepted.”
Moloto said three men and a woman were found in the vehicle.
It was searched and officers recovered an unlicensed firearm, which was seized.
The firearm will be sent for ballistics to check whether it was used in other crimes.
The four were expected to appear before the Atteridgeville magistrate’s court on Wednesday on possession of an unlicensed firearm charge.
Vispol Commander Captain Simon Maredi urged other community structures to join this initiative in ensuring that police and the community work together to fight crime.
