Another attack on a smallholding on the outskirts of Pretoria has left a 61-year-old man dead, this time in Doornrandje, south west of the city.

Bruce Fellars was shot on Monday night. He was sitting in his car parked in front of his gate, as he was on the phone with his wife Cheryl, when he was accosted by a man allegedly pretending to be a police officer.

At 7.40pm, Fellars phoned his wife to tell her that a white VW Golf with a single blue light on the car’s roof was parked outside their property.

One of the two men in the Golf, then climbed out of the unmarked car and approached Fellars, who was still on the phone with his wife. Under the impression that the man was a police officer, Fellars turned down his car window. The man shot Fellars under his armpit.

The two men sped off without taking anything, leaving Fellars to die in his car. Because Fellars was on the phone while the man shot him, his wife heard the shot and knew that something had happened.

Fellars managed still to drive up the driveway to the house. Cheryl opened the front door for her husband who then walked to the lounge and took a seat on a couch. Fellars explained to Cheryl what had happened. Moments later, he died.

Captain Tessa Jansen said the motive for the murder was still under investigation.
